Infomate Marks 20 Years as Sri Lanka’s First Shared Services Centre

From Captive Centre to Global BPM Leader

Jehan Perinpanayagam, CEO of Infomate, reflects on the company’s transformation over two decades, from a captive shared-services unit for John Keells Holdings (JKH) to becoming a globally recognised Business Process Management (BPM) firm serving Fortune-500 clients.

What started with 60 employees serving internal group companies has grown into a full-fledged BPM exporter with around 600 staff, offering services internationally across continents. (Read full article here)

Pioneering a BPM Industry in Sri Lanka

Perinpanayagam describes Infomate’s early role as catalytic, introducing the shared services model to Sri Lanka, standardising processes across the conglomerate, and embedding SAP best practices, automation, and process harmonization.

As Infomate expanded globally, it helped raise confidence in Sri Lanka’s potential as a BPM destination. The company’s journey helped open the door for other organisations to adopt similar models, contributing to the broader growth of the BPM/outsourcing industry in the country.

Building Talent, Opportunity, and Inclusivity

A major point of pride for Perinpanayagam is how Infomate nurtured careers, especially for youth, underrepresented groups and communities outside urban centres. The company pioneered rural-BPM operations, establishing centres in places like Mahavilachchiya, Seenigama, and Jaffna, giving many young Sri Lankans access to global career pathways.

Through “Infomate University”, internal training labs and partnerships with accounting bodies and education institutions, they’ve offered structured learning in finance, ERP, automation, data science, and soft skills, enabling employees to build long-term, globally competitive careers.

Eyes on the Future: Innovation, Automation, and Global Growth

Looking ahead, Perinpanayagam highlighted that technology will define Infomate’s next chapter. With continued investment in automation, AI, analytics, and advanced BPM solutions (such as their platforms BPOMate-Pro and next-gen payroll systems), the firm aims to move beyond routine tasks to deliver high-value, knowledge-driven services.

He also spoke of plans for expansion, exploring partnerships, joint ventures, stronger international marketing, and scaling up operations to capture global BPM demand while preparing the workforce for a future shaped by innovation.

A Message to the Next Generation: Purpose, Persistence, and Possibility

As Infomate celebrates its 20th anniversary, Perinpanayagam offered a message to aspiring BPM professionals and entrepreneurs: start small but dream big, believe in your vision, and let passion, perseverance and purpose guide your growth.

He acknowledged gratitude toward the leaders, teams, clients and stakeholders who contributed to the journey, calling the milestone a tribute to their collective dedication.
